Trip to Wimbledon

Seven children from Primaries 4-6 enjoyed a school trip to Wimbledon on Saturday 2 July - Day 6 of the championships.  They saw some incredible tennis and soaked up the atmosphere in the club grounds.

On Court One the children enjoyed a thrilling ladies’ match with Madison Keys (USA) beating Alizé Cornet (FRA) to reach the fourth round. They then witnessed the shock exit of the number one seed Novak Djokovic (SRB) by Sam Querrey (USA).

Rain suspended play several times but didn’t dampen spirits. The children ate lunch on the grassed banked area outside No.1 Court, nicknamed “Henman Hill”, and watched live tennis matches on the giant television screen.

While it was a long day travelling to and from London by train, underground and bus (with a 4.30am start) the children and school escorts certainly won’t forget the incredible experience.

The children watched the tennis finals on TV at home the following week and were especially delighted at Andy Murray winning his second Wimbledon title.
